UK Beach-Lover Summer Holiday Destinations

UK Beach-Lover Summer Holiday Destinations

Whether you’re a beach-lover or a sand-hater, there’s no denying that Britain has its fair share of beautiful beaches. From sandy shores to clear waters (no, really) you don’t always need to hop on an expensive flight to experience the joys of a day at the beach. If you’re guilty of a daily Skyscanner scroll, searching for the latest holiday deals, take a look closer to home and stay at one of our top-pick beach destinations right here in the UK.

Situated in East Sussex on the South Coast of England, Hastings may be well known for the famous battle of 1066, but less talked about for its beautiful beach stretching from the Old Town right the way to Bulverhythe.

Hastings’ main beach backs right onto the quaint seaside town, filled with various cafes, restaurants, shops and facilities suitable for the whole family. There is even a Victorian pier, giving Hastings all the credentials of a British seaside town.

As for the beach facilities, there are lifeguard services, several close-by car parks, dog-free zones, deck chair hire, a first aid point, toilets, cafes and restaurants.

Hastings’ beach is a shingle beach, meaning you’ll find pebbles rather than sand. There is, however, a good expanse of sand once the tide goes out, ideal for building castles and playing beach games - just make sure to pack a Heat Holders blanket to avoid sitting directly on the rocks.

From central London, you can get to Hastings via train in as little as 1 hr 40 minutes.

It’s certainly no secret that Cornwall is the idyllic staycation destination, and for good reason. Not only are Cornwall’s beaches voted some of the best in England, but even some of the best in the world!

With over 300 miles of coastline, Cornwall has everything from sandy shores, picturesque cliffs and turquoise waters that you might expect of the Caribbean. There’s also no limits to the activities you can do, from a sunbathing ‘relax-to-the-max’ holiday to a water sport-lovers dream, Cornwall quite literally has it all.

For a family-favourite beach with white sand and blue waters, head to Porthcurno Beach. If you’re looking for a surfers paradise, head to Bude’s various beaches.

Lytham St. Annes.

Fancy a beach vacation up north? Look no further than Lancashire’s stunning seaside town of Lytham St Annes. Here, you’ll find miles of natural beach to explore, including promenade gardens, waterfalls and wildlife.

Although the north might not always get the same heat as in southern regions like Cornwall, Lytham’s beach has miles and miles of flat sand, perfect for the whole family to enjoy when the summer sun does come to visit. Though do take care and check tide times before setting your beach towel down for the day.

If it is a bit chilly but you want to make the most of your beach day, make sure to pack a cosy thermal hoodie from Heat Holders for when that sea breeze rolls in.

There are numerous events that take place at Lytham St Anne’s throughout the year, even on the beach itself, including Lytham music Festival which is usually held in July each year.

Northumberland is home to some of England’s most beautiful beaches, including Bamburgh Castle beach, located near Alnwick.

What makes Bamburgh stand out from any of Northumberland’s other beaches is the breathtaking castle dominating the skyline. The historic castle, once a Norman stronghold, now towers over the wide expanse of sand and impressive dunes.

A walk along the beach in a northerly direction takes visitors to Stags Rocks, aptly named with various rock pools and a small lighthouse - perfect for little ones to explore.

Although ‘surfing’ and ‘northern England’ aren’t often used in the same sentence, surfing at Bamburgh is actually encouraged as the waves are consistent throughout the year. Surf hire and lessons are available at the beach.
